Beachcombing for Kids - Join URI Marine Outreach Scientists on a summer day at low tide for a two-hour beachwalk. Explore Fort Getty, one of Rhode Island's unique coastal beaches. This program gives young people a special chance to have their questions answered about the plants, animals, and minerals found on the beach. Oceanography Explorer Day Camp - Youngsters entering grades 6-8 can participate in a unique and fun opportunity to learn oceanography during the summer. URI Outreach Scientists will introduce children to the basics of oceanography and take them into the field each day to learn firsthand about our coastal environment. Camps meet at URI's Narragansett Bay Campus and each fun-filled day includes a field trip to a coastal area in southern Rhode Island. Children will examine marine life from microscopic to macroscopic and experience a trip aboard a coastal research vessel. See the Calendar of Events for dates and registration information. | |||

Historic South Ferry Walking Tours - Enjoy popular one-hour interpretive walks featuring the historic South Ferry area. Led by Wayne and Bernice Durfee, the program begins with a half-hour presentation of historic photos at the Coastal Institute Viistor Center. The walk then ventures down to the site of the old ferry landing, near the remains of WWI military bunkers overlooking Narragansett Bay, and through the campus of the Graduate School of Oceanography.
