Science and Engineering Program for Teachers:
Exploring the Frontiers of Science and Engineering via Telepresence 5 days - 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Professional Development Opportunity for Middle and High School Science and Technology Teachers Program Description: The Science and Engineering Program for Teachers begins with four half-day presentations on the frontiers in science and mathematics. This is followed by a full-day treatment of the synthesis, processing, properties, and performance of materials, which serves as a bridge between science and engineering. The final two days stress the design and manufacture of engineering systems, including management and techno-economic decision-making. Examples are drawn from engineering systems important to international commerce and health care such as integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, and bioengineering, as well as those that affect the quality of life on Earth, such as water treatment, infrastructure, and energy conversion. Specific areas of science and engineering that will be represented during the week: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Materials Science, Oceanography, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Civil Engineering and Nuclear Engineering. - Included in the program are lectures from MIT and URI-GSO faculty as well as tours of the laboratories and other facilities at GSO.
