2004 Quahog Bowl
Rhode Island ~ Connecticut Regional Competition Held Saturday, February 28, 2004
On Saturday, February 28th 2004, 14 teams of students from Connecticut and Rhode Island high schools competed in the seventh annual regional competition of the Nation Ocean Sciences Bowl. The RI/CT regional competition, known as the Quahog Bowl, was a great success this year due to the hard work and dedication of the students, coaches, and volunteers. Cranston High School West took home the first place trophy from the Quahog Bowl for the sixth year in a row. It was a tough competition and Portsmouth High School came in a close second. Third place was Marianapolis Preparatory School and fourth place was Waterford High School. The winner of the Team Challenge Award was Cranston High School West, and the Sportsmanship Award was won by North Kingstown High School. The 2004 sponsors of the Quahog Bowl donated numerous prizes and trips for all of the participating teams. The top four teams received a prize generously donated by the Ocean Classroom Foundation. The coaches and students will be boarding the Harvey Gamage Schooner for an overnight sail from NY to CT. This excursion will allow the students to experience real "life at sea" and fully participate in the operation of the ship. Cranston High School West will be advancing to the national competition, which will be held in Charleston, South Carolina on April 24-25, 2004. Last year Cranston High School West proudly came in first place at the national competition, and we wish them the best of luck again this year! Participating High Schools:
