Grinnellia americana

The delicate, bright pink blade of this Rhodophyte has a faint, central midrib which may not run the entire length of the blade. Note the dots on the specimen on the left. When viewed at higher magnification we can see that tetraspores are borne on these darker spots. These tetraspores will be released. Some will attach to surfaces and germinate to form the gametophyte stage of this alga's life cycle.
